About: The New Orleans African American Museum of Art, Culture, and History (NOAAM) is dedicated to the preservation, presentation, and interpretation of African and African American culture and heritage in New Orleans and the African Diaspora. Signature events, exhibitions, and programs keep the historic campus in Tremé bustling with culture bearers, artists, and thought leaders.

Description: The Fund Development Manager is a key member of the NOAAM leadership team, responsible for co-building an annual fund plan and executing all activities tied to that annual fund. This includes managing the grants calendar and writing all grants, developing a process for donor cultivation, managing sponsorships, overseeing the planning of all fundraising events, and developing systems to maximize fundraising capacity. NOAAM is actively building and implementing a “decolonize the museum” model. The new Fund Development Manager will be a thought partner in shifting how museums can be funded, with a focus on applying community-centric fundraising principles to the resource development department.

Requirements/Responsibilities: What will my first year include?

General Systems Management: The Manager will need to co-build an annual development plan in collaboration with the Executive Director, outlining the projected revenue streams and all fundraising activities over the course of the calendar year. The Manager will then build systems and processes to manage the implementation of the annual plan including: developing a thank you policy, developing a check processing system, and managing the donor database.

Grants Administration: The Manager will be responsible for managing the yearly grants calendar, updating dates quarterly, working with the Executive Director to set strategy, and draft all grants communications. In addition, the Fund Development Manager will be responsible for managing all grant compliance, acknowledgment, stewardship, and reporting.

Individual Donor Management: The Manager will build out the individual donor program alongside the Executive Director including managing all individual donor appeals, guiding the ED on any donor stewardship strategies, ensuring the donor database is up to date, and ensuring that all individual donors understand the impact of their gift. This includes managing the museum’s membership program.

Events: The Manager will be building out the events program at NOAAM. This includes managing and executing on the annual fundraiser, Sips N Spirits, as well as working with the Executive Director to build out a series of smaller donor dinner events.

Qualifications:

Planning & Execution: You should apply for this role if you have strong experience developing your work plan and goals. Candidate should demonstrate experience or interest in setting team-wide work plans as well. Experience in setting interim milestones and communicating project progress is critical. Candidate must demonstrate a strong record of seeking counsel when help is needed to execute all goals.

Systems Thinking: The candidate must be able to anticipate long-term challenges and build strong processes that mitigate those anticipated challenges. Candidate must understand how various roles contribute to the mission of the organization and must be able to make decisions that are in line with the broader organizational objectives set out in the strategic plan.
